Services for our guest students

We want our guest students to feel at home at our university, which is why we offer a complete package to ensure that your stay in Hamburg is as pleasant as possible.

  • »Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome«

Before you come to Hamburg we send you a Welcome Pack with your semester documents, information about your accommodation, street maps and addresses as well as information about living in Germany. This ensures that you are well-informed before you leave home.

  • »Roof over your head« - Accommodation

In a strange city it is important to know from the start where you are going to live. For a number of guest students we can offer a room in an apartment in a hall of residence. You have your own room and share kitchen and bathroom with a small number of students. The monthly rent costs between 250 and 350 Euro.

If you want to live privately, you can look for rooms on the following websites:

  Accommodation Finder Studierendenwerk Hamburg

  www.wg-gesucht.de

  www.studenten-wg.de

  • »Getting around« - Public transport

All students at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences have to pay a semester contribution (at present 220 Euro). For this money you get a semester ticket which allows you unlimited travel on Hamburg's public transport system (bus, underground).

  • »Looked after from the start« - Buddy Programme

German students at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences act as »buddies« for our guest students. They collect the guest students from the airport/station and bring them to the hall of residence. They help them with registration, opening a bank account and getting health insurance; everything that is difficult in a (still) foreign language and city. They introduce their own department and help with questions during the semester.

  • »Settling in« - German course/Hamburg programme

Before the semester starts guest students can enrol in a two-week intensive German course (paid for by the students) at a private language school as well as participate in an orientation Hamburg programme. A great way to brush up on the language, meet the other guest students and get a feel for the city.

  • »Getting more for your credit points« - Events and excursions

The International Students' Club (ISC) organises the Hamburg Programme and starts the semester off with a Welcome Brunch for all the international guest students and their German buddies. During the semester the ISC organises events, parties and excursions in Hamburg and beyond. A great way to get to know country and people.
