What does a degree programme cost?
If you want to study in Hamburg you should be prepared for monthly living costs for students in the region of EUR 450 - 700. Hamburg University of Applied Sciences is unfortunately not able to offer scholarships for a full degree programme, though there are a few scholarships for academic excellence for the main studies as well as financial support for the final year.
- Semester contribution
All students have to pay a semester contribution [EUR 271,90/semester]. The semester contribution includes the cost of the »semester ticket«; a ticket which allows you unlimited travel on Hamburg's public transport system. It also includes an administration fee of 50 Euros.
- Tuition fees
Tuition fees of 375 EUR per semester have been introduced for all undergraduate degrees and those postgraduate programmes that did not already have tuition fees. Some Master's programmes may be more expensive. Foreign students can apply to pay their tuition fees after they have completed their degree programme. This is called »Stundung« and is only possible for the length of the degree programme (e.g. Bachelor 6 or 7 semesters) plus 2 semesters.
- Health Insurance
It is only possible to be enrolled at a Hamburg university if you have health insurance. With the exception of students from EU countries [they can remain in their home system] you must be insured with a German health insurance company. Health insurance at present costs approximately EUR 58,49 including the fee for the national nursing insurance scheme. For more information about the state health insurance schemes and how to get insurance click on the addresses to the right. Students over the age of 30 years will have to get private health insurance, for example: Victoria Krankenversicherung.
- Cost of Living
Hamburg is a relatively expensive city. You should therefore be prepared to have living costs of EUR 400 for rent, food and other costs. In addition, there will be the costs for materials which [depending on the degree programme] can lie between EUR 125 and 250 per semester.
