Scholarships for international students

• Bachelor Scholarships for academic excellence [Leistungsstipendien ]

Hamburg University of Applied Sciences awards scholarships to academically strong foreign students studying in Bachelor degree programmes. Applicants must have completed their school education outside of Germany or have graduated from a Studienkolleg. Students in design degree programmes cannot participate in this programme.

 

Scholarship

400 Euro / month (5 months per semester)

The scholarship is for one semester; an extension for a further two semesters is possible, if all the courses per semester are completed with a grade average of at least 2.5.  

 

Application requirements

- non-engineering students: completion of all courses of the first two semesters [within two semesters] with a grade average of at least 2.5 

- engineering students: completion of all courses of the first two semesters [within two semesters] with a grade average of at least 2.9

or

- engineering students: completion of all courses except two of the first two semesters [within two semesters] with a grade average of at least 2.5

 

Application process

The application forms are available from the International Office of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and are to be handed in there. The scholarships are awarded by a commission of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.

30.09. (for the winter semester) and 30.03. (for the sumer semester)

 

• Master Scholarships for academic excellence [Leistungsstipendien ]

Hamburg University of Applied Sciences awards scholarships to academically strong foreign students studying in Master degree programmes. Applicants must have completed their school education outside of Germany or have graduated from a Studienkolleg. They must also have completed their Bachelor's degree or Diplom at a German university and be enrolled in a consecutive Master's programme* at the HAW Hamburg.  Students in design degree programmes cannot participate in this programme.

 

Scholarship

500 Euro / month (5 months per semester)

The scholarship is for one semester; an extension for a further two semesters is possible, if all the courses per semester are completed with a grade average of at least 2.0.  

 

Application requirements

- non-engineering students: completion of a Bachelor's degree or Diplom in the "Regelstudienzeit" with a grade of at least 2.0 at a German university

- engineering students: completion of a Bachelor's degree or Diplom in the "Regelstudienzeit" with a grade of at least 2.2 at a German university

or

- grade average for the first semester in a consecutive Master's programme at the HAW Hamburg of at least 2.5

- ideally students should also have completed an internship and have been involved in a social project or worked as a volunteer

• Final year scholarships [Examensförderung]

Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as the City of Hamburg (Studentenwerk Hamburg) award scholarships to international students who are in their final year and only have to complete their final exams and Bachelor thesis. In some cases Master students can apply, if they only have to complete their Master thesis and are not doing this in industry.

 

Scholarship

400 Euro / month (5 months per semester)

 

Application requirements

- completion of degree programme within one year

- good grades

- financing of degree course through own work

- not higher than 14th semester

 

Application process

The application forms are available from the International Office of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences or the Studentenwerk Hamburg and and are to be handed in there. Students can apply for both programmes.
