Where can I get good advice?
Getting the right information from the right people or finding help when you need it is vital for a successful degree course. Here is a list of people you can turn to for advice:
- »Zentrale Studienberatung« [Students Centre]
Speak to the Central Student Advisory Team if you have general questions about our degree programmes, their contents and entry requirements or if you are considering changing your degree programme. They also offer counselling if you should have learning difficulties, if you are worried about examinations or have other problems studying effectively.
- »Studentensekretariat und Prüfungsamt« [Students Centre]
The Admissions Office is there for all questions about applying for / enrolling on a degree course [student ID / semester ticket], if you should have problems with registering for the next semester or being removed from the student register. In some cases it is also the office to talk to when registering for final examinations or applying for your degree certificate.
- »Akademisches Auslandsamt« [Students Centre]
Come to the International Office if you have questions regarding your residency permit [problems with the Ausländerbehörde], if you are in sudden financial difficulties or want to know the requirements for applying for scholarships.
- »Studienfachberater« [in the departments]
Each department/degree programme has its own student counsellor to whom you can turn if you require detailed information about the academic requirements or study credits for a degree course or if you would like advice on how best to complete your degree.
- »Praktikantenberater« [in the departments]
The placement counsellor in each department informs you about the pre-study placement as well as the main industrial placement. These counsellors are responsible for the official recognition of practical training and offer advice if your placement differs from the official regulations.
- AStA
The AStA [rather like the Students' Union in other countries] represents students within and outside of the university. Divided into the areas Social, Sport, Culture, Women, Finances, University and PR the AStA offers advice in social and legal questions as well as with regard to degree programmes. The AStA Team can be found on Campus Berliner Tor.
