What's on in Hamburg

A student's life is not just about studying and Hamburg offers a wide range of leisure activities. Whether it is in the Stadtpark or on the Alster, in museums or in the cinema, on the sports field or in the night club, there is always something on in Hamburg.

  • University Sports Programme

As a student of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences you can participate in the University Sports Programme [Hochschulsport]. Registration is possible all year round and information about the courses can be found on the website. There is a huge variety of sport and leisure programmes - at affordable prices.

  • Theatres and cinemas

Hamburg is Germany's musical town with musicals such as »Lion King«. If you prefer the theatre, Hamburg offers no end of choice from big, classical productions to fringe theatre. And as for cinemas: Hamburg has everything from big multiplexes to small but individual programme cinemas. And after the film? Not a problem, Hamburg's nights are long!

  • Nightlife

Hamburg is famous for the Reeperbahn - an area close to the harbour, full of night clubs, pubs and people partying to the early hours of the morning. But there are also lots of other areas in Hamburg, each with their own style of nightlife. And at weekends Hamburg's public transport system runs through the night to help you get around and home again.

  • Fine Arts and museums

Hamburg has 50 museums and galeries with a wide variety of permanent and temporary exhibitions. In the Hamburger Kunsthalle you can admire the masterpieces of Caspar David Friedrich, in the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte you can learn more about your new home town or in the Deichtorhallen consider examples of modern photography.

  • Out of doors

Do you want to know where you can swim in Hamburg - outdoors and in? Did you know that there are lots of places in and around Hamburg where you can go skiing? Do you want to visit the pot-belly pigs in the 'Schwarzen Bergen' or maybe talk to the elephants in Hagenbecks - or simply hire a boat and row along the canals on a sunny summer day? Hamburg is an international city, a fact reflected in its variety of restaurants. Lots of nationalities are represented, but also good German fare as well as typical Hanseatic food. So when you have had enough of the refectory, treat yourself.
