The faculty of Life Sciences covers fields of study that are directly linked to the conditions influencing human life. These include health and food sciences, natural sciences and engineering technology. These fields are part of the Hamburg „future clusters“ that receive special focus in the development of the city of Hamburg.

Biotechnology, environmental engineering, balanced nutrition, biomedical engineering and rescue engineering are subjects that directly affect many people and have a substantial impact on the development of our modern society. Process engineering delivers the basis for these life sciences by engineering the machines, equipment and facilities needed.

The multidisciplinary approach of our fields of studies is strengthened by the links between the disciplines. This improves the quality of our lectures and projects and strengthens the practical focus of our research. Crucial impulses for the further development of our fields of studies are given by applied research and close contact to companies and organisations. Furthermore we are traditionally closely linked to other scientific institutes and universities in the Hamburg region.
