* In most departments the higher level classes will start in the first week of the semester; in some departments the first week of the semester may be an orientation week for all students. Please check with your department.

Public Holidays: On public holidays shops, banks and post offices are shut in Germany. There is increased traffic on roads, rail and at airports as Germans use these days for long weekends or short breaks.

Note for degree-seeking students:

The orientation period mentioned in this calendar is for guest students (non degree-seeking) only. The first week of the semester (start of classes) is the orientation week for first-semester degree-seeking students.

Some engineering programmes offer a pre-semester maths programme to introduce degree-seeking first semester students to the level of maths required for the programmes. Please check with your department if this is offered for your programme.

»The class structure is very unlike anything I have experienced in American universities. There are no weekly graded assignments or tests; the only grade you receive all semester is based upon projects or exams during the final two weeks of school.« - William Addison, USA
