In which career fields will I work? |
Well trained health professonals are needed to meet the growing demand within the changing field of health care. Target group of the MPH programme are postgraduates, seeking responsibility and leadership in specialized areas of public health including the social, educational and environmental setting. Applicants have to demonstrate knowledge and skills related to public health practice that include selecting and employing appropriate methods for design, analysis and synthesis to address population-based health problems. Programme participants will be trained for positions in public administration, in health insurances, hospitals, professional associations; in health research and surveillance institutions; for health promoting and preventive tasks, and in health economics and management. | |
What is the content of the degree program? |
The aim of the Master of Public Health course is to provide participants with scientific and practical skills to conduct research bring about policy change and positively affect the health of populations. Its key concept is to preserve and enhance the health, well being and life expectancy of human populations by integrating scientific knowledge, practical skills and data research experience to advance public health. To emphasize its international character, the programme is held in English with an interdisciplinary focus. The MPH programme starts with introduction courses on public health, health policy, epidemiology and health promotion / health prevention. Additional courses provide students with knowledge in conceptualizing, planning, implementing and evaluating public health interventions, study designs and research methods. Students gain a comprehensive understanding in the field of health promotion, health and environment, politics, management and economics and health service administration. Work environment or nutrition can be chosen as a special subject. The programme culminates in the writing of the final paper (Master Thesis). The aim is to formulate and analyse a problem, using a suitable study design and study methods to make recommendations for a solution. Concepts and methods learned during the programme will be applied. A written examination must be passed to complete each course, and the student is then awarded the appropriate number of credit points in accordance with the European Transfer System. | |

In the department Health Sciences 260 Students are studying (218 female and 42 male students) There are 4 female and 6 male professors. | |

Do I need to complete a pre-study placement? |
You need a proof of at least one year of practical experiences in the field of public health. | |
Do I have to pay fees? |
Yes, you have to pay Tution fees. The amount will be 2.400 € per fulltime semester. . All students have to pay a semester contribution of 298,90 €. This includes 75,- € for the service of the Students Organisation Hamburg (Studentenwerk Hamburg), 18,50 € for the work done by the self-governing Student Administration (AStA), 4,50 € for the Semsterticket-Härtefond and 150,90 € for the semester ticket allowing unlimited travel on Hamburg's public transport system. It also includes an administrative fee of 50 €. | |
