Nicholas Bishop hat an der Universität Bath in seinem Heimatland Großbritannien Maschinenbau studiert und sich in Biomechanik spezialisiert. Danach hat er zehn Jahre als Forschungsingenieur an dem AO Forschungsinstitut in Davos, Schweiz gearbeitet. Seine Doktorarbeit entstand als Kooperationsprojekt des AO – Davos und des Biomechanik Instituts an der TU Hamburg-Harburg und behandelte die mechanische Stimulation von Frakturheilung. Seit 2002 hat er mit Prof. Michael Morlock an diesem Institut gearbeitet und in Zusammenarbeit mit verschiedenen Unternehmen, insbesondere DePuy-Synthes, viele Aspekte des Gelenkersatzes und der Implantatenwicklung erforscht. Präklinische Tests, Retrieval- und Fehleranalysen zählen zu dieser Arbeit und haben zur Beteiligung an verschiedenen Fortbildungsprogrammen für Chirurgen geführt. Seit März 2014 ist er an der HAW Hamburg als Professor für Biomechanik und Technische Mechanik beschäftigt
