ABGESAGT: Writing the PhD thesis – No secret science

Fr, 19.06.2020, 10:00 – 17:30 Uhr
Promotionszentrum, Steindamm 103, 20099 Hamburg

As part of your PhD, you are required to prove your ability to research and discuss an academic topic. But where do you start? How do you structure your masses of research data and materials in a meaningful way? How do you plan your writing time? What are the usual traps to avoid when writing your doctoral thesis? And what do you do when you’re stuck in the middle of a chapter? In this one-day seminar, you will get your PhD on track. We will focus on working out an initial structure for your dissertation, set interim goals for your writing process and look at your current work. We will also schedule a follow up appointment, individually agreed with you, to take place a few weeks after the seminar. The seminar will address the following points:

  • Overcoming the elements of “writer‘s block”: Writing - from “not starting” to “not stopping”
  • Preparing to write: Focus, synopsis, structure, readability
  • Time management: Setting realistic goals and deadlines, and keeping to them Form: quotes, sources, bibliography
