Intercultural skills training courses run by the International Office

You’re sure to have heard of intercultural competencies or skills at some point during your degree course. Many employers expect you to have these in your skill set, and they’re also important on campus and in day-to-day student life. But what do intercultural competencies look like in practice?

To help you find out, the International Office runs various intercultural training sessions and discrimination awareness courses. In these courses, you’ll think about your own cultural identity and how it affects your values, behaviour and ways of thinking about things. You'll also share your experiences with others. Interactive exercises will help you critique your perceptions and assumptions and learn to look at things from a different point of view. After your course, you’ll be better able to actively engage in intercultural situations and speak out against discrimination.

The courses usually last two days and count towards Component 2 of the Certificate of International Competencies.
