The Scientific Publishing and Research Methods Workshop is an international initiative designed to strengthen research capacity, foster academic dialogue, and promote collaboration among professors, researchers, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and students connected to our global sustainability networks. The event is promoted by:
- Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP)
- European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR)
- European-North American Sustainability Research Consortium (ENASRC)
- German-Brazilian Science and Technology Network (GERBRAS-SCIENCENET)
To facilitate worldwide participation, the workshop will be held online and conducted entirely in English. This format will enable participants from different countries, disciplines, institutions, and career stages to exchange knowledge and experiences concerning scientific publishing and sustainability research.
The first edition, held on 1 September 2026, focused on ‘Research Methods for Sustainability Research’. The three-hour event featured three keynote speakers and welcomed more than 190 participants from around the world. Building on the success of the first edition, this second event will focus on scientific publishing and qualitative and quantitative research methods.
A major feature of the event will be a scientific publishing workshop delivered by Prof. Dr Walter Leal Filho, an internationally experienced researcher, author, editor, and specialist in sustainable development. Prof. Leal Filho serves as Editor-in-Chief of two internationally recognised academic journals:

His extensive experience in academic publishing will provide participants with valuable insights into how editors assess submissions, the qualities they seek in publishable manuscripts, and the most common challenges faced by authors during the editorial and peer-review processes.
The workshop will provide participants with practical knowledge to strengthen the quality, methodological rigour, and international visibility of their research. It will also create opportunities to learn directly from experienced researchers, discuss common challenges associated with academic publishing, and exchange experiences in sustainability research.
