World Symposium on Biomass: Technology, Science and Economic Development

Mo., 24.05.2027 – Di., 25.05.2027
Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Biomass—organic material derived from plants, animals, and waste—stands at the crossroads of renewable energy, circular economy, and sustainable development. As global efforts intensify to decarbonize energy systems and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, biomass offers a versatile solution for power generation, biofuels, biochemicals, and bioproducts. Brazil, a global leader in bioenergy (ethanol, biodiesel, and bioelectricity from sugarcane bagasse), possesses vast agricultural residues, forestry resources, and advanced conversion technologies.

However, challenges remain in logistics, supply chain sustainability, second-generation (2G) biofuel scalability, and balancing food vs. fuel concerns. The state of Rio de Janeiro, with its dense industrial base, ports (Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro), and proximity to the Campos Basin’s oil and gas infrastructure, is uniquely positioned to be one of the leaders of the biomass-to-bioeconomy transition and serves as an ideal location for the World Symposium on Biomass: Technology, Science and Economic Development.
