Information for students
(Updated: 28 September 2023) When will I be able to view my grades via myHAW again?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Grades and exam results stored in myHAW and Stysis have been preserved for the most part, as stated here previously in January. Viewing and updating information stored in myHAW is now gradually becoming possible again:
- Students in the departments of Public Management, Nursing, Business, Information, and Media Technology can now access their grades.
- As of 4 October 2023, students in the following departments will be able to view their grades again: Nutrition and Home Economics, Health Sciences, Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Process Engineering.
- As of 9 October 2023, students in the Department of Social Work will be able to view their grades again.
- By 1 December 2023 at the latest, students in the following departments will be able to view their grades: Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Production Management, Information and Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science.
- Planning for the Department of Design will take place in October 2023. It is still not possible to make a definitive statement for this department; however, the aim is for students to be able to view their grades as of December 2023.
Once students are able to view their grades again, it will also be possible for instructors to enter grades.
In exceptional cases it is possible to obtain administrative transcripts and transcripts of records from your Faculty Service Office (FSB).
You can find the contact information on each faculty's FSB page:

Can I still use my student ID card (chip card) – for example, in the libraries? What about my semester ticket for HVV (public transport)?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Since 2009, HAW Hamburg has provided its students with a multifunctional chip card that serves as their student ID, among other things. With the exception of the HVV semester ticket function for the public transport system, this card can still be used – for example, as a library card, for cashless payment in the cafeterias (Studierendenwerk Hamburg) and to access rooms on the HAW Hamburg campus that are locked electronically.
At the moment it is not possible to validate the card using the automatic validation stations, which is why all students have been sent their HVV semester ticket by post, together with their enrolment certificate. If you have not received your ticket by mail, you should go to the Information Point (Infothek) at Stiftstraße 69:
Monday–Thursday: 10:00 am–1:00 pm
First-semester students have also been sent their HVV semester ticket and their certificate of enrolment by post. They can also contact the Information Point in the event of problems.
Chip cards cannot be issued at the current time. To use the library services, you can apply for a library card.
Are myHAW and other online services functioning again?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Students can now use their new HAW account to sign into myHAW via myhaw.haw.tuhh.de.
On the myHAW home page you will see a red button that says 'Login mit HAW Account' Please use this. You can sign in there with your new HAW user ID. Please note that the servers are not set up to allow all students to access the system at the same time, so there may be delays when you log in.
Limited use of myHAW
In addition to the access code for the energy-costs subsidy, you can also find your enrolment and BAföG (student financial aid) certificates on myHAW. It is also possible to change your address and submit leave and deregistration requests.
It is not currently possible to view your grades or to register for courses via myHAW for all departments.
If you have only recently applied and do not yet have a HAW account, please continue to use the button at the top right side of the web page – for example, to download your letter of acceptance. Please note that you need to be enrolled as a student in order to download certificates and applications following login to your HAW account. First-semester students are not entitled to receive the energy-costs subsidy.
Additional information about online services that are now available again
I need a certificate for the BAföG (student financial aid) ageny. How can I get this?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Students can now log in to myHAW at myhaw.haw.tuhh.de with their new HAW account. You can then download your BAföG certificate from myHAW.
Is there still a Moodle learning platform?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Together with the ITSC, the staff of the KOMWEID project have built a new virtual learning environment (Übergangsmoodle), which has been online since 6 March: moodle.haw-hamburg.de.
Instructors can upload their course materials to the new platform.
Students will receive the enrolment codes for their courses from their instructors at the beginning of the semester.
Can I use the university's network via VPN?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
A VPN connection to the Hamburg network is now available again! This requires that you log in using the single sign-on service. You will also need to install and set up a new VPN client.
This will enable you to use licenced library materials such as e-books and e-journals, as well as specific faculty drives, from your home computer.
A step-by-step guide is available here: Online services – WLAN/VPN
I need a certificate of withdrawal. What should I do?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
If you have decided to withdraw from your studies at HAW Hamburg, you can now submit an application to withdraw in myHAW (see the menu item 'Änderung von Daten/Anträge).
Otherwise, you can apply in writing to withdraw. The application needs to include your first and last names, your address, your student number and the date that you would like to be deregistered. We would also appreciate it if you could provide your reason for withdrawing. You can submit the application by post (Studierendensekretariat, Stiftstraße 69, 20099 Hamburg), via the Student Admissions and Registration Office mailbox in the Stiftstraße building, or in person at the Info Point (Infothek) during its opening hours.
You will then receive your certificate by post.
