Mission statement
What ideas guide HAW Hamburg as a university in the digital transformation process?
At HAW Hamburg, digitialisation is viewed not simply as a technological development, but also in terms of its societal, cultural and economic dimensions. Based on this understanding, HAW Hamburg aims to actively shape the digital transformation process. This means accompanying the changes and processes associated with digitalisation from an academic perspective, addressing the opportunities and risks in our teaching and research, engaging in targeted dialogue with the public, and providing impetus and input.
HAW Hamburg actively addresses the developments and processes of the digital transformation. It views digitalisation holistically as a central and cross-cutting topic in university development (modernisation) and a unique hallmark (profile building) in the further evolution of the university:
As a teaching and research facility, HAW Hamburg's vision is to be a competent partner on issues related to digitalisation for business, society and political actors in the Hamburg region. It also aims to develop application-oriented solutions to the societal challenges posed by digitalisation, within and across disciplines and through both local and global dialogue.
How does HAW Hamburg stand out as an actor in the digital transformation process?
HAW Hamburg as an active and competent designer and driver of the digital transformation
................................................................................................................................................................................................
HAW Hamburg is perfectly suited for a role as an active and competent designer and driver of the digital transformation: the combination of its wide range of subjects, its international character, its practical orientation, its linking of practice and academia, its diversity, its interdisciplinary potential and its presence in a metropolitan region make it an ideal contributor to the digitalisation process.
HAW Hamburg's vision addresses the demands of an increasingly digitalised working world and society. With its academically and practically oriented expertise, it provides its graduates with new (transdisciplinary) competencies, skills and qualification profiles. These graduates are able to work between people, machines and network structures and can interact professionally across different career groups and at the interfaces of various disciplines. A confident approach to using digital media is a matter of course. HAW Hamburg thus contributes to its graduates' ability to develop innovative solutions to new challenges.
Digitalisation as a question of responsibility for people and the future
................................................................................................................................................................................................
As an educational institution, the university (pro)actively and responsibly addresses the opportunities and risks of digitalisation.
The university is aware of its societal responsibility for the impacts of digitalisation on fundamental values such as self-determination, privacy, fairness, equal rights and participation. It takes into consideration the effects on gender relations and the consequences for people with different life situations, social and cultural backgrounds, and identities and lifestyles. Its aim is to develop courses of action that enable equality and prevent exclusion.
As an educational institution, the university is committed to humane and responsible societal relationships as part of the digital transformation. It provides options for the design of and action on digitalisation issues. Numerous partnerships with those in the field and with more than 100 international universities create the capacity for diverse cross-disciplinary global perspectives on the digital transformation.
