KlimaGESUND (01.01.2020 – 31.12.2021):

Educational resources on „Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Strategies in Public Health” for Health Sciences and Public Health curricula

As the impacts of climate change on health become increasingly prominent, it is imperative to integrate contents and training tools on climate-related health problems into health sciences, public health and health care curricula and courses. Health professionals and advocates need to acquire new skills and a deeper understanding of the diverse health impacts of climate change in order to protect the health and well-being of populations in the view of one of the greatest public health threats of the 21st century.

The project KlimaGESUND aims to develop climate-related teaching materials and training tools combining traditional and online learning approaches tailored to students of health sciences, public health and associated disciplines. The education resources are intended to help lecturers integrate topics of environment, climate change and health into their teaching by making those materials easily deployable and modifiable. The main focus will be on the development and implementation of integrated adaptation strategies to protect and improve population health. The aim is further to strengthen cooperation and networking for joint activities targeting actors of education, research and health, but also students in Germany.

  • The participatory development and testing of the educational materials and training tools in accordance with the concept of “Blended Learning”
  • The development of a course handbook to facilitate the integration of contents and tools into health curricular

  • The establishment of a multidisciplinary network of actors from the educational, research and health care sector to strengthen collaboration in research, development and capacity building in the field of climate change and health

The project KlimaGESUND sponsored by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety based on a decision of the German Bundestag.
