As part of the EnEff-H-Pump project, an innovative rotary homogenising pump is being developed. Such pumps are used, amongst other things, in the food industry, particularly for the homogenisation of oil-in-water emulsions. This process distributes fat particles more evenly, thereby improving the texture and shelf life of the product.
The main objective of the project is to significantly increase the quality of homogenisation whilst improving energy efficiency.
The EnEff-H-Pump project is being carried out in close collaboration between the Competence Center for Energy Transition (CC4E) at HAW Hamburg and Fristam Pumpen KG (GmbH & Co.)—a leading manufacturer of hygienic stainless steel pumps.
Project Objectives at a Glance:
- Improving energy efficiency and homogenization quality: Development of a rotary homogenization pump that optimally utilizes flow phenomena while meeting the requirements for hygienic applications.
- Optimization of the manufacturing process: Improving material utilization, reducing manufacturing costs, and adapting the design to modern manufacturing processes.
- Use of modern development methods: Integration of OpenFOAM-based CFD simulation for detailed analysis of fluid flow phenomena and their impact on homogenization quality. Methods such as reverse engineering, life cycle analysis, and the physical optimum are also employed.
- Prototype construction and field testing: Manufacturing and comprehensive testing of prototypes on a pump test bench to validate the theoretical approaches in practice.
Through the EnEff-H-Pump project, the CC4E is actively contributing to the development of sustainable and energy-efficient technologies that play a key role in the food industry. This initiative underscores the importance of innovative research and practice-oriented development in creating sustainable solutions for resource-efficient production.
The project is funded by the Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank (IFB Hamburg).
