Responsible Advanced Intelligent Methodologies and Skills-Lab

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) opens up a wide range of possibilities for transforming scientific methods and approaches in the various disciplines of a university of applied sciences (UAS). A well-founded understanding of the concept of applied AI forms the basis for specifically tapping into its potential in the context of applied research and at the same time critically and reflectively scrutinising it.

Against the backdrop of European AI regulation, the R-AIMS project focuses on Responsible AI and Human-centred AI. Based on the research strength of applied computer science at UAS Hamburg, the responsible use of AI is combined with application-related research topics in the profile areas of Sustainable Technologies and Systems and Interdisciplinary Social and Health Research. The overarching goal of the research project is to find out how Responsible AI can be integrated into the development and use of AI-based systems. By developing innovative methods for assessing risk and trust factors, the project promotes ethical and social acceptance of AI. To this end, it specifically analyses risks in accordance with the AI Act and creates a scientific basis for safe and responsible, application-oriented AI methods that combine technical innovation and social trust. The overarching goal of the research and the qualification concept is to permanently establish the responsible use of AI-supported methods as a cross-cutting topic in research, teaching and the promotion of young talent at UAS Hamburg. To this end, the research space is designed as an internally and externally visible place for explorative collaboration and interdisciplinary test projects, within which research and research-based learning takes place and is integrated into the qualification of early career researchers.
