General information about applying to submit your Master's thesis

You can apply to begin work on your thesis if you have met all the necessary requirements as stipulated in the applicable examination and study regulations (for more information, please see: GESR-ESLC-BM, section 16).

You will need to submit the 'Application to complete a Master's thesis' and the 'Declaration of consent for publication of a Master's thesis' to the first reviewer, the second reviewer and, subsequently, the chair of the Examination Committee (PAV) for their signatures. The PAV will check the thesis title and the suitability of the reviewers and assign binding start and submission dates.

You will be given six months to complete your Master's thesis. If you have other examinations during the semester in which you are writing your thesis, you are required to complete them as well. Depending on your examination load, it is possible to have the time frame to work on your thesis extended. The start date can be backdated a maximum of four weeks in consultation with the PAV.

Please submit your completed and signed application form together with the accompanying declaration. If you have listed an external reviewer who has not previously worked as a reviewer for HAW Hamburg, please also submit a simple copy of their academic degree to the Office for the Coordination of Inter-University Studies. Applications without proof of external reviewers' academic degrees cannot be accepted.

Once your application has been processed, you will receive a copy with your start and submission dates by email.
