Africa is disproportionately vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, despite contributing less than 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The continent faces escalating challenges including prolonged droughts, devastating floods, rising sea levels, and landscape changes that threaten food security, water availability, and livelihoods.
Agricultural systems—the backbone of many African economies—are increasingly strained by shifting rainfall patterns and temperature extremes, while rapid urbanization intensifies heat stress and infrastructure pressures. These intersecting challenges demand urgent, context-specific adaptation responses that are informed by robust research and practical experience.
