Jahan Shama’s interest in choosing to study Information Engineering was inspired by being surrounded by electronic devices and technology during her childhood. She always wanted to be an engineer, which she claims, made her feel like a „Jedi“.
What she particularly likes about her studies is learning about the different concepts and integrating these into the laboratory sessions with references made to the real life applications. She is happy that she can now work less thanks to the awarded Deutschlandstipendium. This allows her to focus more on her studies. The scholarship means a lot to her, as she does not receive any other type of funding. It motivates her to work even harder at her studies and makes her feel like a part of the community. It has also changed her outlook on hard work positively, as she says that hard work in her country hardly pays off. She now feels appreciated for the hard work she has put into her studies.
After completing her school, Jahan Shama worked in the development sector of her home country, Bangladesh. Here, she helped women cope with new technologies and become independent. Jahan Shama’s family is very proud of her studying in the Engineering field at the HAW Hamburg. Her family supports and assures her immensely, especially as she is the first person to study in her family. She is also being supported by her friends in Bangladesh and in Germany.
Jahan Shama likes the City of Hamburg, even though the weather isn’t so great. She appreciates the culture and the freedom and is happy to have moved here from Bangladesh. Alongside her studies, she works and engages in voluntary work. Sometimes she also finds time for her hobbies.
