The lecture will outline general trends on sustainability in higher education, focusing on some of the most important areas to consider. The presentation will also cover some of the sustainability rankings used, and discuss the links between sustainability and climate change in a higher education context.

About the presenter
Professor Walter Leal (PhD, DSc, DPhil, DTech, DL, DEd, DLitt) holds the Chair of Environment and Technology at Manchester Metropolitan University (UK) and Climate Change Management at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (Germany), where he heads the Research and Transfer Centre on Sustainable Development and Climate Change Management

With 164 books, 93 book chapters and around 360 publications in refereed journals, he has been providing a key contribution to the literature on on matters related to sustainable development and climate change. Professor Leal is founding editor of the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education (IJSHE) and is Editor-in-Chief of the Encyclopedia of the UN Sustainable Development Goals which, with 17 volumes and in excess of 2.500 authors, is the largest editorial project on matters related to sustainable development ever undertaken.

Professor Leal is also the founder of the International Climate Change Information and Research Programme (ICCIRP) and editor of the International Journal of ClimateChance Strategies and Management. He is Editor-in-Chief of the leading peer-reviewed book series "Climate Change Management" and his latest work, the "Handbook of Climate Change Management" with 6 volumes and over 500 authors, is the largest non-publicly funded editorial project on matters related to climate change. A considerable portion of his work focuses on the interface between sustainable development and climate change. Professor Leal has supervised or co-supervised dozens of doctoral students working on sustainable development and climate change issues.
