Assistance for students

- HAW Hamburg's Centre for Migration Research and Integration Practice is the central point of contact for prospective students who are refugees. It offers weekly online information events in English, as well as online workshops on choosing a course of study, financing your studies, residency law and admissions requirements. - As of winter semester 2022/23, students who have fled Ukraine will also be entitled to admission to HAW Hamburg's Preparatory Studies programme, which enables them to begin their studies even before they have obtained the necessary language certificate. Additional information
- If you already fulfil all the admissions requirements for international students, the KOMPETENZ KOMPAKT programme can support you with starting your studies as of summer semester 2023. Additional information
- The BachelorUP and MasterUP programmes help ensure that international academics with and without a refugee background can successfully enter the German labour market in a field/position appropriate to their education. Additional information
- The International Office is the central point of contact for international students. It provides advising to students who are experiencing visa-related, social, financial or personal difficulties or who would like to get in touch with other students: support_incomings (at) haw-hamburg (dot) de.
It has also compiled a web page which provides information on funding opportunities. - The Student Counselling Office provides advising to prospective students interested in studying at HAW Hamburg, as well as academic advising and psychological counselling for students. On the following pages, you can find all the advising offers for students.
- If you experience discriminatory behaviour, harassment or violence, you can contact the Confidential Dispute Advising Office or the Anti-discrimination section of the Equal Opportunities Office.
- Studierendenwerk Hamburg's Counselling Centre for Social and International Affairs provides support to Ukrainian students in need of assistance – for example, because they need to extend their stay or require financial support.
- German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) overview of assistance for Ukrainian students and scholars
- The Equal Opportunities Office at HAW Hamburg would like to draw attention to the pme familienservice's offers for those impacted by the Ukraine war. These offers (all free of charge) include virtual storybook readings for Ukrainian children and virtual meet-ups, as well as advising sessions on dealing with fears and for people who are hosting Ukrainian refugees.
Assistance for scholars and researchers

- Under the title 'Hamburg Science Bridge – Germany-Ukraine', the Ministry of Science, Research, Equalities and Districts (BWFGB) has provided additional initial funding of €100,000 for the Hamburg Programme for Scholars at Risk in order to help scholars quickly and without bureaucracy. You can find more information about the programme on the Universität Hamburg website. The contact people at HAW Hamburg are Prof. Dr. Walter Leal (walter.leal2 (at) haw-hamburg (dot) de) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Wulf (VP-Forschung (at) haw-hamburg (dot) de). It is also possible to submit a search request for temporary accommodation.
- The Associate Secretariat of the Baltic University Programme (BUP) at HAW Hamburg has initiated the Baltic Science Bridge. Scholars and scientists who need help or universities that want to offer support can contact the 'Baltic Science Bridge' office at: ukraine-science-bridge@ls.haw-hamburg.de.
- The Faculty of Life Sciences is offering Ukrainian academics the opportunity to take on teaching contracts and is also reviewing whether additional Ukrainian students can be admitted to its Biomedical Engineering, Process Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Master's courses.
