We offer undergraduate classes in English (or where German is not required) for exchange students from our partner universities in the following areas:

Design & art

Our design and art classes cover a wide range of topics from book illustration, graphic design, photography, typography, comic, fashion and textile design and more. Some classes are in English while others are a mixture of German and English more...

Media & Film

Our Media Technology programme has a strong focus on the hardware of film and media, offering exchange students the possibility to learn more about video, sound design and lighting. But classes also include dramaturgy and camera acting. more...

Digital information

Hamburg is Germany's most important media centre and is home to several large publishing houses. Exchange students can take classes in English in digital culture and critical theory, social media and search engine technology. more...

International Media Center

Prof. Dr. Steffen Burkhardt is the founding director of the International Media Center (IMC) at the HAW Hamburg. Since 2010 he has developed projects in collaboration with leading university-based teaching and research institutions in countries outside Europe, which were incorporated into the IMC on behalf of the City of Hamburg: the American-German Media Programme, the African-German Media Programme, the Asian-German Media Programme and the Russian-German Media Programme. Pentiment is our international summer art academy with international artists teaching and international students and artists participating from around the world. Pentiment takes place each summer from the middle of July to the first week of August.
