fold faq Getting a place - Tips for a successful application

Please read carefully what documents are required for your chosen Master's programme. Information about the documents that must be included with your application can be found on the first page of the degree programme information sheets (see links in the list of Master's programmes).

A committee of professors and members of the university administration award the places on our Master's programmes for international students. They look at your Bachelor grade and your German or English grade as well as your GRE or GMAT score (where relevant).

They look at your resumé to see what you have done in your life so far, what interests you have, what study-relevant internships or work experience you have completed, etc. If required, your statement of motivation will be an important basis for deciding whether to offer you a place, if we have candidates with similar academic qualifications.

Please take care with these documents and make sure they show you to your best advantage and cover the points requested in the degree information sheets. If you have reference letters for internships relevant to your study choice, then please don't forget to enclose copies of these.

The Master's programmes at the HAW Hamburg are small, so please don't waste your opportunity by omitting to send in all the requested documents. Most applicants are turned down because they haven't included their GRE or TOEFL score (where relevant) or don't have proof of basic German (A2) when requested for some of the English programmes. Good luck with your application!
