Strategic research: Mobility & Transport

Moving people and goods is one of the central issues of a growing and global economy. Increasingly mobility is becoming less of a matter of speed and more of a matter of how this can be achieved in a way that saves resources and reduces the environmental impact. As the third largest centre for civil aviation in the world and Northern Europe's logistics hub, Hamburg is looking for innovative solutions to reduce its carbon footprint and to develop a sustainable strategy for city growth.

Aviation

Hamburg's aviation competence in industry, research and further education is brought together in its innovation cluster »Hamburg Aviation« and supported by the Centre of Applied Aeronautical Research (ZAL). HAW Hamburg is a member of the board of »Hamburg Aviation« and a key partner for education and research and also a founding member of ZAL. Aviation research at the HAW Hamburg focuses on lightweight structures and composites, cabin systems and acoustics as well as Airport2030. It is conducted in collaboration with Airbus and other industry partners. Labs are on campus or as part of the Hamburg Centre for Aviation Training (HCAT) which houses our lab for cabin systems.

Mobility & Transport

This strategic research area looks also at mobility and transport on the ground. It includes research on electrical mobility in commercial freight, autonomous systems as well as information and communication technology.

The Competence Centre New Flight pools HAW Hamburg's research competence and acts as a communication partner for interdisciplinary projects with internal and external partners. Please contact CCNF for more information about Hamburg Aviation, our research projects or if you are looking for a research partner.
