German Classes for HAW Hamburg students

Some of you will be studying in an English-language degree programme and may know little or no German. Making the most of living in a foreign country includes learning the language. After a successful start in the summer semester of 2018, the HAW Hamburg continues to offer German language courses at Campus Berliner Tor in collaboration with the Volkshochschule Hamburg.

Note: Please be advised that these classes are open only to students enrolled at the HAW Hamburg. if you are not yet enrolled, please scroll down to see other language school options in Hamburg:

German as a foreign language: 6 courses (levels*: A1, A2, B1, B2 - overview of the classes)
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Time period:
Middle of October 2018, running until the middle of January 2019. (12 dates)

Credits: The Volkshochschule will award you a certificate of 4 ECTS, if you participate in at least 80% of the class, pass the exam and get at least two course assessments during the semester. Your Department decides if these ECTS can go towards your degree. Please speak to the Study Advisor.

Costs: 45 class units (45 minutes) cost in total 110 Euros. The HAW Hamburg will cover the cost of your class.

Registration: In order to register you must take a placement test. This is not necessary if you are taking the A1.1 total beginners class. The test consists of a written exam and a short oral exam and takes place between September 25 and October 5 in the Students' Centre (Stiftstr. 69, Room 124, 1st floor); you will need to register in advance for the placement exam. More information here: Volkshochschule Website

The online registration will start on September 17 for beginners' courses and on September 27 for advanced courses at: Online registration. Each course has 20 places. If more people register, there will be a lottery system. If fewer than 10 people register, the course will not take place. Note: Please use a random series of numbers and made-up banking information for the fields asking for your banking information, as the course is free for HAW Hamburg students.
