International Business - Exchange Students

Today global competition determines the markets with goods, services and information exchanged via world-wide networks. Hamburg is one of the most dynamic business centres in Europe and is home to many international companies. It is Europe's second largest port and Asia's gateway to Europe and is also the third largest centre for civil aviation with Airbus as a major business engine for the city. The Department of Business prepares its students for a global economy with an international management programme focusing on different aspects of international trade.

Exchange students from our partner universities can study for one or two semesters at the HAW Hamburg and can choose from the following business classes in English:

International Business - courses in English

  • International Corporate Finance
  • International Economics 2
  • International Human Resource Management
  • International Management 
  • International Marketing*
  • International Organisation & Cooperation
  • International Trade & Logistics, FDI 

Working successfully in an international environment also requires excellent intercultural soft skills. The International Business programme offers a special focus in the field of cultural and social sciences from a business perspective. The following classes are in English:

  • Academic Research & Writing
  • Business English - Selected Business Topics
  • Country Studies
  • Intercultural Communication & Competence
  • Project Work

NOTE: These international business classes are open only to exchange students who are business majors at their home university. Students must provide proof of having successfully completed business classes in the form of a transcript of records. Information about the modules can be found in the module handbook. / *limited places

Exchange students with B2 German can also take undergraduate classes in German in Foreign Trade/International Management, Marketing or Logistics. Please contact the Student Exchange Coordinator for more information.

Double degree URI - HAW Hamburg
2 degrees in 4 years: Students from the University of Rhode Island also have the opportunity to complete a double degree with the HAW Hamburg. By spending an academic year in Hamburg, students in the BS Global Business programme at URI can also receive a BSc from the HAW Hamburg in International Management.
