KlimaGESUND

Educational resources on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Strategies in Public Health for Health Sciences and Public Health curricula

As the impacts of climate change on health become increasingly prominent, it is imperative to integrate content and training tools on climate-related health problems into health sciences, public health and health care curricula and courses. Health professionals and advocates need to acquire new skills and a deeper understanding of the diverse health impacts of climate change in order to protect the health and well-being of populations in view of one of the greatest public health threats of the twenty-first century.

The project KlimaGESUND aims to develop climate-related teaching materials and training tools combining traditional and online learning approaches tailored to students of health sciences, public health and associated disciplines. The education resources are intended to help lecturers integrate the topics of environment, climate change and health into their teaching by making those materials easily deployable and modifiable. The main focus will be on the development and implementation of integrated adaptation strategies to protect and improve population health. The aim is to further to strengthen cooperation and networking for joint activities targeting actors in education, research and health, as well as students in Germany. This will involve the following:

  • The participatory development and testing of the educational materials and training tools in accordance with the concept of blended Learning
  • The development of a course handbook to facilitate the integration of content and tools into health curricula
  • The establishment of a multidisciplinary network of actors from the educational, research and healthcare sectors to strengthen collaboration in research, development and capacity building in the field of climate change and health

The project KlimaGESUND is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety based on a decision of the German Bundestag.
