HAW Hamburg University Advisory Board

The University Advisory Board has nine volunteer members and includes individuals from academia, culture and business. It serves an advisory and decision-making function, especially regarding strategic issues. It is also involved in central personnel decisions, in particular the election of the university president and the head of administration and finance.

Four members are appointed by the HAW Hamburg Senate, and four by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.1 The ninth member is elected by the other eight members. Two of the individuals selected by the University Senate are university members, so-called internal members. The two external members of the University Advisory Board are suggested by the Executive Board and appointed by the University Senate.2 An advisory board made up of nine people must include at least four people of each gender. All members are appointed for a term of four years.
