Current information about operational measures at HAW Hamburg in response to the coronavirus

Are exams still taking place? What are the plans for the current semester and the winter semester? What does 'secure on-campus activity' mean? How has the coronavirus pandemic impacted the working conditions of employees, researchers, etc.? On this page you can find the answers to these and other questions about how the university is dealing with the coronavirus.

Because the situation is a dynamic one, further decisions and measures are possible. Please check your emails and the information on this page regularly – making sure to note the date the question was last updated.

Important notice

Because of the very dynamic and serious development of the pandemic, the university management has decided to significantly limit on-campus operations until further notice. Student study rooms, the libraries, the Faculty Service Offices, the Chip Card Services Office and the Student Center Info Desk are currently closed.

Requirement to wear a medical mask (Updated: 8 April 2021)
The regulations regarding masks have been made stricter: so-called medical masks must be worn in HAW Hamburg buildings and on campus grounds at all times. Individuals are only permitted to remove their mask when they are alone in a closed room or if a suitable construction (e.g. plexiglass barrier) is in place to prevent the spread of droplets via coughing, sneezing or speaking.

Testing (Updated: 8 April 2021)
Students are only permitted to attend on-campus teaching sessions if they have undergone a coronavirus test on the same day and the result was negative. A rapid self-test, which will be provided free of charge before each course, can be carried out under supervision at the university for this purpose. Alternatively, students can be tested at a testing facility (e.g. a test centre)  and bring confirmation of the result to the university. It is recommended that employees working completely on campus carry out a minimum of two tests per week, depending on test availablity.

Collection of contact data via QR code
For those courses and meetings that do take place on campus, participants' contact data will be collected via a QR code.  Each room at HAW Hamburg where seminars, lectures, lab work, meetings, etc. take place has been assigned a QR code. It is also possible to check in using the URL listed under the QR code. The maximum capacity for each room is noted on a poster at the door and cannot be exceeded.
