The Department of Film and Theatre at the University of New Orleans is committed to an interdisciplinary belief that film arts, theatre arts, and writing for production enrich one another. The Department fuses the artistic, technical and analytical dynamics of theatre and film in a collaborative environment, educating the next generation of professional storytellers. The department offers degree programmes that are built on a strong foundation of literature, theory, history and the application of this foundation to the artistic process.

The film arts programme is designed to give students experience in film production. It includes courses in film aesthetics, digital technology, film history, and script analysis as well electives such as documentary production, cinematography, editing, and sound design. The programme trains the complete, independent filmmaker, to give students the best chance of success in the highly technical, creative, and competitive profession of film-making.
