HAW Hamburg focuses on innovative and applied research for sustainable solutions often in close cooperation with industry. To draw together expertise from across the university and to highlight the innovation clusters for external partners HAW Hamburg has defined four strategic research areas. These pages give a brief overview of the strategic areas and their competence centres, the research groups at the HAW Hamburg and our Research & Technology Transfer Centres.
Energy & Sustainability / CC4E

City of Hamburg innovation clusters
Hamburg is Germany’s second largest city and one of the most dynamic regions in Europe. Its economic profile is shaped by its international port, aviation and media and by new technologies in renewable energies, information technology and life sciences. Hamburg is in the Top 10 smart cities in Europe and with its cluster policy of eight innovation clusters it has set its goal to be the Innovation Capital of Europe 2020. HAW Hamburg is a strategic partner in education and research for several of Hamburg's innovation clusters, in particular in the areas of aviation and renewable energies.
