International programmes at the faculty
The HAW Hamburg is a city university and not a typical “campus university” that we are so familiar with when we think of American universities. Our university is divided up over four locations throughout the city. We hope however, that wherever you study, you will feel at home.
Mechanical Engineering - Exchange students
Mechanical engineering is at the core of almost all engineered products »Made in Germany«. In order to design and manufacture high quality products you not only require an excellent understanding of the customer and market requirements but also an efficient product design process as well as a thorough understanding of the key technical fundamentals, their possibilities but also their limitations.
Germany is not only a pacemaker in up-market engineering products but also demonstrates how it is possible to supply a modern energy-dependent society with an environmentally-friendly energy base. The courses offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Production provide an insight into some of these innovative fields.
Each summer semester (March - July) exchange students from our partner universities can take the following classes in English:
Mechanical Engineering courses in English
- Energy Systems
- Finite Elements
- Machine Cutting Technology
- Systematic Product Development
- Technical Thermodynamics 1
Further information about the content of the classes can be found in the module handbook.
Exchange students with B2 German can also take other classes offered in German in our Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's programmes.
Students may also be able to take classes from aeronautical engineering, automotive engineering and information engineering (all classes within the Faculty of Engineering & Computer Science) if lecture schedules and capacity allow.
HAWKS Racing: During your studies in Hamburg you can join our very successful Formula Student Racing Team, getting hands-on experience in building a racing car and participating in the races in Europe: HAWKS Racing Website
Application deadline:
Summer semester (March - July): 30. October
(exchange students from partner universities & Global E3 partners only; not open to freemovers)
Mechanical Engineering master courses in English
In additon to the offer of bachelor courses in English exchange students may also be able to take the following classes in English of the master-study-courses at our Department of Mechanical Engineering & Production, if lecture schedules and capacity allow:
- Control systems and sensor systems (SoSe)
- Elektrochemical Energyconversion/Fuell cell systems (SoSe)
- GCP Global Processes (SoSe)
- Computational Acoustics (WiSe)
- International Supply Chain Management (WiSe)
- Product Lifecycle Management (SoSe)
- Virtual Product Development (SoSe)
Exchange student have to take into consideration that the master courses are offered once a year only, either in the summer semester (SoSe, March - July) or in the winter semester (WiSe, September - February)
