Industrial Engineering
Industrial engineering links engineering to business in order to produce graduates competent in finding cross-disciplinary solutions to complex problems.
We offer this degree course in partnership with Universität Hamburg, which runs its business part while we cover the engineering side; this winning combination allows students to access a broad and diverse range of classes with roughly equal proportions of theoretical and practical elements. Required modules alongside a range of required electives for students to choose from mean you can plan your degree in accordance with your interests. Find out more at www.hwi.uni-hamburg.de/bachelor.
Your future career
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Industrial engineers work in a wide variety of fields and roles, from engineering design and technical quality control to marketing and management accounting.
A fairly large proportion of our graduates begin their careers in management consultancy, where they apply and expand their skills in analysing business processes. After a few years‘ experience, they are able to take on management and leadership roles in SMEs or large corporates or to launch their own successful businesses in mechanical engineering or IT.
Course content and structure
................................................................................................................................................................................................
The initial semesters of this inter-institutional course focus on the acquisition of fundamental principles for STEM and business subjects, taught in required modules. As the course progresses, you’ll be able to follow your interests by making appropriate choices from the wide range of required elective modules on offer. You’ll finish your degree by writing your Bachelor thesis. In total, the course is six semesters in duration.
Your interests and skills
................................................................................................................................................................................................
You’ll need to be interested in the big economic and business picture and in how business issues link up with technical matters, as well as being gifted in abstract and analytical thinking and good at maths. You’ll do best if you are an outgoing and communicative team player who’s able to make a constructive contribution in a multidisciplinary group.
