Data Literacy in Context

HAW Hamburg is dedicated to the topic of data literacy. For example, the Data Literacy in Context (DaLiCo) project aimed to promote the competent handling of data across subject areas and disciplines. Data literacy was not viewed solely in relation to a single department or university, but was researched both interdisciplinarily and internationally through cooperation with three European universities in the Netherlands (Hogeschool Utrecht), Spain (Universitat Politècnica de València), and Hungary (University of Debrecen), and placed within a broader context. The Strategic Partnership, funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ program, supported collaboration between departments, institutions, and external partners, thereby contributing to the establishment of a data literacy community dedicated to teaching data literacy skills. HAW Hamburg served as the lead coordinator of the Erasmus+ project. As part of the project, concepts and prototypes were developed, including a “data literacy map” for pooling resources, a train-the-trainer concept, a learning space, and a measurement and evaluation tool for data literacy. In addition, a pilot concept was developed for the institutional implementation of common international data literacy standards in selected curricula of the partners. The project was successfully completed.
