In the Cabin and Cabin Systems Laboratory (KKS Laboratory), education and training for the Cabin and Cabin Systems specialization are conducted. This includes cabin architecture, cabin modules and monuments, ergonomic and design studies, as well as electrical and fluid-mechanical cabin systems and cabin acoustics.
knowledge transfer
................................................................................................................................................................................................
The practice-oriented nature of the HAW Hamburg degree programs is a key quality characteristic and forms the basis for establishing a suitable laboratory for the specialization Cabin and Cabin Systems (KKS Laboratory). This concept was integrated as a core component into the Hamburg Centre of Aviation Training (HCAT).
The establishment of HCAT represents a major building block in the strategy of the Hamburg aviation cluster to educate and train qualified specialists. The aviation cluster has been designated by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as one of Germany’s five leading clusters.
HCAT serves as a platform for the intended transfer of knowledge in the further development of aviation-specific technologies, manufacturing processes, and problem-solving strategies within the framework of vocational training, continuing professional education, and higher education. In an initial step, the cluster priorities Cabin/Cabin Systems as well as the processing and application of aviation-specific materials were addressed.
The objective is to establish a laboratory for cabin and cabin systems that includes all essential cabin modules, monuments, and cabin systems required for a practice-oriented aircraft engineering program within the Cabin and Cabin Systems specialization at HAW Hamburg. Through laboratory experiments and project-based work, students will be able to deepen and further develop course content through hands-on experimentation and systematic analysis.
The KKS Laboratory is an integral part of HCAT and is jointly used by the participating partners. It is located at the State Vocational School for Health, Aviation, and Engineering (BS 10) in Hamburg-Borgfelde.
goals
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Enhancement of teaching quality through hands-on laboratory exercises in the aircraft cabin and its associated cabin systems.
- Improved student supervision through an expanded range of laboratory courses.
- Better and more immediate employability of graduates in the field of cabin and cabin systems engineering as a result of the strong practical orientation.
- Expansion of the existing laboratory infrastructure with new opportunities for teaching and research.
- Achievement of a high utilization rate through cooperation with partner institutions and avoidance of redundancies through a complementary alignment of activities.
The Cabin and Cabin Systems specialization at HAW Hamburg is a unique academic program. It ensures the availability of highly qualified engineers for the Hamburg aviation hub in this specialized field. The discipline of cabin and cabin systems extends far beyond a classical engineering curriculum: it integrates technology and aesthetics, as well as the interaction between humans and machines.
The planned Cabin and Cabin Systems Laboratory opens up new opportunities for practice-oriented teaching and applied research in the Hamburg metropolitan region and further strengthens Hamburg as a leading aviation location.
General Information
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Opening Hours
During the lecture period, the laboratory is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Opening hours may vary during the lecture-free period.
Access to the Laboratory and Seminar Room H210
Before entering the laboratory area, visitors must register with the laboratory staff in Room 207.
Room 207 and Seminar Room H210 can be accessed via the south stairwell.
Outside the holiday periods of the State Vocational School for Health, Aviation, and Engineering (BS10), this stairwell can be reached through the main entrance of the HCAT (located beneath the connecting bridge to BS10), between Eiffestraße 51 and Brekelbaums Park 10. From there, the route through the laboratory hall is signposted.
Cabin and Cabin Systems group
................................................................................................................................................................................................
The Cabin and Cabin Systems group comprises all professors and staff members engaged in teaching and research related to the aircraft cabin and cabin systems. The group is responsible for all course modules in this subject area and ensures their ongoing content development as well as the improvement of didactic quality in teaching.
As such, the group plays a central role in both the Bachelor’s program in Aircraft Engineering – Cabin and Cabin Systems and the Master’s program in Aircraft Engineering – Cabin and Cabin Systems.
Location
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Due to the location of the KKS Laboratory in HCAT-II on the campus of the State Professional School for Health, Aviation, and Engineering (BS10), there are certain access specifics.
During the opening hours of HCAT-I (outside Hamburg school holidays), Seminar Room HCAT 210 can be reached via the HCAT main entrance (under the BS10–HCAT-I connecting bridge), which is signposted from the Brekelbaums Park 10 access. Please use the south stairwell (toward Eiffestraße) to reach the seminar room.
HCAT-I, BS10, the underground parking garage, and the school grounds are closed early outside Hamburg school holidays. It is therefore recommended to enter and exit via the Eiffestraße 51 access.
During Hamburg school holidays, entry and exit are only possible via the Eiffestraße 51 access.
