Borrowing and returns during periods without loan desk service

There are certain times when the libraries do not provide any loan desk services but remain open to students. During these opening hours you can work, read and do research in our libraries. It is also possible to borrow and return items.

Borrowing

Borrowing library items is possible via the self-service checkout stations.

Automated returns

All of the HAW Hamburg libraries have automated returns shelves, which automatically record the returns when books are placed in them. Most items are then immediately available for borrowing again.

Returns bins

It is possible to return items via the returns bins – even when the libraries are closed: 

  • Returns bin, Ulmenliet 20, left of the Mensa beside the blackboard and the cement pillars
  • Returns bin, Finkenau 35, new building
  • Returns bin, Alexanderstrasse 1, in the foyer of Haus A

Please note that the return is not recorded in the system until the next day the library is open with service desk. This date is considered the return date. Immediate borrowing of the item or the payment of fees is not possible.
