First-semester tutorials – where, why, how?
The first-semester tutorials, which take place in German, are organised by the First-Year Orientation Team for new students who are just taking up their studies. The beginning students are supported by experienced students from their own degree course in mastering everyday university life and making their studies a success.
HAW Hamburg implemented the first-semester tutorials to improve students' outcomes. Improved support in the initial phase of studies contributes significantly to successful degree completion, as research on university drop-outs shows.
