If You’re Sick Before an Exam:

• Get an original medical certificate of incapacity for work (AU).
• Include your matriculation number and the exam name.
• Submit it to the Faculty Service Office.
• Deadline: within 1 working day after the AU ends.

If You Get Sick During an Exam:

• By signing in, you confirm you’re fit to take the exam.
• If you suddenly feel too ill to continue:
  1. Tell the examiner you’re stopping.
  2. Go to a doctor immediately.
  3. Get a certificate of examination incapacity (an AU alone is not enough).
  4. Email or write to your exam committee chair (PAV) right away.
• Submit the original certificate to the Faculty Service Office within 1 working day after it expires.
• The PAV decides if your interruption is valid.

Important: If you leave an exam without a valid reason, you’ll get a grade of “insufficient” (5.0) for that exam.

To re-register for the new semester, please transfer the semester fee within the re-registration period. Please do not make the transfer before the start of the re-registration period, as the final amount will only be determined at the beginning of this period.

New re-registration deadlines from summer semester 2024

• Winter semester: July 1 – September 15
• Summer semester: January 1 – March 15

The semester fee must be credited to HAW Hamburg’s account no later than the last day of the re-registration period!

If you are unable to pay the semester fee for financial reasons, you can contact the AStA of HAW Hamburg. In justified cases, they may grant a loan.

What does my semester fee cover?

Graduation ceremony - this year the first time as part of the new Faculty of Health! 

The Graduates in Health Sciences and Public Health are invited! 

Please, save November 21, 2025, in your appointment schedule for the graduation ceremony at the HAW Campus Bergedorf. 

All graduates of the following programs are cordially invited to attend:

-    Master of Public Health 
-    Master Health Sciences
-    Bachelor Gesundheitswissenschaften

… and their families and friends who want to join the celebration!

Who meets the requirements to attend the graduation ceremony as a graduate?

If you have received your degree certificate, you can be honored as a graduate at the graduation ceremony.
If your Master certificate has not yet been issued, the thesis must be
1. properly registered,
2. handed in on time (at least two weeks before the ceremony), 
3. that there will be a written notification of the first examiner that the thesis will at least be marked as “passed” which have to be submitted to the course coordination and
4. CPs of all study achievements have to be registered at the FSB. 

Like every year, graduates are invited to actively participate in the planning and design of their graduation ceremony. The student contribution at the graduation ceremony has become an integral part of the official ceremony. Start thinking about what a contribution might look like and let the course coordination know.

in Claus-Wacker-Hörsaal (0.43), Campus Bergdorf, Ulmenliet 20, 21033 Hamburg.

Following the ‘official part’, we would be delighted to celebrate with you and your guests at a relaxed get-together with a delicious buffet and drinks.

All graduates are cordially invited to attend. Guests pay €5 for the buffet and non-alcoholic beverages. Please bring €5 in cash and pay in front of Room 0.43. Thank you!

Note: We would like to capture the honors and the joint celebration at the graduation ceremony in photographs for our website and Instagram account. All graduates and guests will have the opportunity to take personal graduation photos, including in robes. Robes will be provided for this purpose.

We are very much looking forward to celebrating the successful completion of your studies together with you.
