Double degree course in International Business

The double degree course offered jointly by the Department of Business at HAW Hamburg and the College of Business at the University of Rhode Island (URI) has existed since 2012 as part of the Foreign Trade/International Management (AIM) degree course. HAW Hamburg students complete the first four semesters of study at HAW Hamburg (120 ECTS). The internship semester can be completed before or after the year in Rhode Island. Students must have a grade point average of at least 2.0 and have a very good command of the English language. Students must complete 60 ECTS in the US (the curriculum is predetermined) and spend their last semester in Hamburg upon their return. The double degree course is eight semesters in total (240 ECTS). Upon successful completion, students receive both a Bachelor's degree from HAW Hamburg and a Bachelor's degree in Global Business Management from URI.

Usually, two outstanding AIM students can participate in the double degree course per year. The year at URI is tuition-free. The course is based on a reciprocal exchange and there is no guarantee that places will be available every year. The academic year in the US begins in September and runs through mid-May. Places are announced in November of the preceding year on the HAW goes USA page. There you will also find all relevant information about the requirements as well as funding opportunities. The application is submitted online, and the application deadline is 6 January. For further information about the curriculum please contact Prof. Dr. Natalia Ribberink. For information about the application please contact Lea Andres.

TIP: Apply for a DAAD one-year scholarship well ahead of time. If you are successful, you will have the chance of being given a place in the double degree course, even if there are no exchange spots available. The DAAD will cover tuition fees up to a certain amount, and will also provide a monthly allowance.

Living in Kingston and at the University of Rhode Island

Kingston is a small city on the east coast of the USA. The University of Rhode Island (URI) is the largest institution of higher learning in the state of Rhode Island, and life takes place primarily on the 1,245-acre campus with its strong athletic teams and wide range of student activities. The campus is only 10 km from Rhode Island beaches, and the city has very good train connections to Boston and New York. Fans of the 'New England indian summer' will get their money's worth during the winter semester. Read the reports of HAW Hamburg students who have studied there.
