Goals and Tasks

Research and Transfer

  • The RTC FMA is a scientific institution that consolidates and communicates the research and transfer activities in the fields of mobility and acoustics within the Faculty of Aviation and Automotive Systems. 
  • The RTC FMA constitutes a disciplinary and interdisciplinary scientific institution and research environment for research, development, and transfer projects, including technical services in the areas within its scope.
  • The RTC FMA develops and initiates research projects, supports the conception and execution of research activities, and assists its members in acquiring third-party funding with the goal of achieving excellent scientific results.
  • The RTC FMA coordinates and supports committee activities within scientific and economic organizations. Reviewing activities by its members—for example, for academic journals or doctoral examinations at partner universities—are welcome. The same applies to participation in standardization committees or working groups in professional societies.
  • The RTC FMA coordinates and supports internal scientific exchange as well as collaboration with other national and international universities, research institutions, and non-university partners.
  • The RTC FMA strives to enhance the scientific and technology-transfer reputation of the HAW Hamburg.
  • The RTC FMA aims to increase the local, regional, national, and international attractiveness of the HAW Hamburg.

Teaching, Doctoral Studies, and Early-Career Support

  • The RTC FMA supports early-career researchers. Within the framework of legal regulations and existing cooperation agreements, it participates in graduate programs.
  • The RTC FMA promotes the transfer of research findings into teaching and continuing education, as well as communication of results to both professional audiences and the general public. Publications—especially peer-reviewed ones—are encouraged. Regular conference contributions reporting on ongoing research projects are mandatory for RTC members.
  • The RTC FMA is committed to the continuous updating and expansion of teaching in order to achieve, maintain, and further develop high, internationally comparable quality standards.
  • In connection with research and technology transfer activities, RTC members with examination authorization define and supervise bachelor’s theses, master’s theses, and dissertations.

Professional Continuing Education

  • Members of the RTC Future Mobility and Acoustics may develop continuing education programs aligned with market needs and offer them in the form of theoretical and practice-oriented instructional content for appropriate compensation. Compensation is based on market rates while taking into account usage fees established by the RTC/university.
  • The RTC FMA seeks cooperation with other units at HAW Hamburg established to promote and support research and transfer and coordinates with them regularly.

Technical Services

  • Upon request from companies, RTC members offer technical services.
  • The RTC FMA seeks cooperation with other units at HAW Hamburg established to promote and support research and transfer and coordinates with them regularly.
  • A prerequisite for accepting such assignments and providing technical services is prior clarification of available laboratory capacities and obtaining university approval.
    • Before starting the work, contracts must be concluded through the university or its technology transfer organizations. Legal considerations such as liability and intellectual property protection must be taken into account.
    • Compensation is based on market rates while considering usage fees established by the RTC/university.
    • Exclusive rental of measurement equipment is not intended.
    • Responsibility for complying with the above rules lies with the respective RTC member performing the service.
