Multi-Rotor System Seminar 2023

Tue, 14 Feb 2023, 11:00 am – Wed, 15 Feb 2023, 5:30 pm
HAW Hamburg | Auditorium at Berliner Tor 21 | 20099 Hamburg

Multi megawatt wind turbine systems have been the goal and an amazing achievement of the modern wind industry since it began in the 1980s. The challenges of further upscaling the established single-rotor concept are considerable, and multi-rotor systems (MRS) are gaining increasing attention as a radical solution with the potential to reduce the cost of energy and achieve unit capacities that are effectively beyond the reach of single-rotor designs.

In order to bring together turbine manufacturers and researchers active in MRS development and institutions with an interest in innovations for the advancement of wind technology, the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) is hosting a two-day international seminar in cooperation with the University of Strathclyde:

  • Tuesday, 14 February 2023 (11 am–7 pm)
  • Wednesday, 15 February 2023 (9 am–5:30 pm)
  • Location: HAW Hamburg auditorium at Berliner Tor 21

The event will be held in English. The programme presently being finalised will include presentations on the Nezzy2, 15 MW twin-rotor system now commencing production in China and on the Wind Catching Systems, 126 MW design now in prototype development. There will also be presentations on other floating systems, unique aerodynamic effects from turbine interaction that enhance power performance, industrial and environmental benefits, structure design, yawing solutions, O&M modelling, wind tunnel testing, wake effects and many other aspects of MRS. The seminar, including catering on site is free of charge. The first day of the event (14 February) will include a group dinner in the evening (Update: The seats at the dinner are booked out for the time being!). The costs of the dinner will be borne by each participant (participation is voluntary).
