Short-term programmes are one- to four-week teaching offers at a university which are mostly offered in the lecture-free period in summer. This is why they are called summer schools. However, there are also offers that take place in winter or summer.
These courses are a sort of 'study abroad lite' and cover very diverse topics. Tuition fees are usually charged for these courses.
Please contact the chair of your faculty's examinations committee to determine whether the credits you earn in short-term courses can be recognised as credits at HAW Hamburg.
The topics and content of short-term programmes are very diverse and vary according to the degree course offerings and profiles of the universities that offer them. It isn't always easy to obtain an overview. The following possibilities exist:
- Your faculty's student exchange coordinator is familiar with the current summer schools and short-term programmes offered by HAW Hamburg's partner universities.
There are two databanks that can assist you in your search:
- Summer schools in Europe
- Summer schools outside Europe (Please note that this databank also includes offers that are not summer schools due to their length.)
There are also programmes that combine the application to/attendance at a summer school with a scholarship:
- Go East summer and winter schools in Eastern Europe (in German only) (summer school combined with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD))
If you have found a programme that interests you, please apply directly to the university that offers it with the necessary documents. These usually include a cover letter, your CV and a transcript of your grades. You can find the exact details on the website of the university offering the course.
