Exams and Regulations
Registration and Withdrawal
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Online registration and withdrawal via myHAW are mandatory for all exams (including term papers and presentations).
For you, this means the following for each exam period:
Please register for your exams in myHAW in a timely manner.
- There is a four-week registration period at the beginning of the semester (April 7, 2026, through May 3, 2026)
- You may withdraw up to 4 days before the exam date.
- Note: Withdrawal deadlines may vary for internships and term papers.
- Without electronic registration within the deadline, you are not permitted to take the exam; without permission to take the exam, no grades can be recorded. Late registrations are not permitted
- If you do not show up for an exam without a valid withdrawal, a failed attempt will be recorded (exception: a sick note).
- Please note that you must always withdraw via myHAW, even if you have already informed your examiners that you will not be taking the exam—examiners cannot submit electronic withdrawals on your behalf.
For your own records and, if necessary, as proof of your registered exams, please print out the overview of your exam registrations in myHAW (PDF file) or take a screenshot.
Registration difficulties:
If you encounter complications or technical problems, please contact us at the Examination Office within the registration deadline. Sending an email by the deadline is sufficient.
Important: While registering, do not refresh the page or simply close the browser window. Please wait patiently for the message confirming that your exam registration is complete, and print out the list of exams you have registered for!
You can find more detailed information in the instructions.
Sick Note
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Sick note:
If you are sick, please submit a sick note (Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung=AU) to the Exam Office, including your student ID number and the name of the exam in question. This is the only way we can process your withdrawal from the exam.
Deadline: One business day after the expiration of the sick note
Reporting Sickness During the Exam:
Since you sign a form before the exam confirming your intention to take it, it is assumed that you are physically capable of doing so. However, if an exam must be interrupted due to acute illness, notify the examiner and go to a doctor’s office immediately. Have a medical certificate (a sick note is not sufficient in this case) issued stating that you are unable to take the exam. At the same time, immediately inform your Exam Committee Chair (PAV) in writing about the interruption of the exam.
Please submit the original medical certificate to the Exam Office no later than one business day after the certificate’s expiration date. The PAV will subsequently decide on the admissibility of the exam interruption.
If students interrupt the exam without a valid reason, the exam performance in the subject in question will be graded as “unsatisfactory” (5.0) in accordance with §26 (1) APSO-INGI.
Oral Review
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Oral Review (MÜP) (§23 APSO-INGI)
If a written exam is graded as “unsatisfactory,” the affected student may submit a request for an oral review three times per degree program, but only once per exam.
The request must be submitted to the Examination Board no later than four weeks after the results are announced. The deadline for conducting the oral review is six weeks from the date the request is submitted. The period without classes is not included in the calculation of these deadlines. The oral review determines whether the student passes or fails.
Application for compensation for disadvantages in exams
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Once your application has been approved by the Examination Board, please contact the respective examiners well in advance of the exam. Only then can it be determined in a timely manner whether further measures are necessary regarding your compensation for disadvantages. In the case of an extension of time, for example, it must be determined whether this overlaps with the subsequent exam, so that a new room can be assigned if necessary.
Application Project
................................................................................................................................................................................................
If a project cannot be registered through myHAW, please use the form to submit a formal project registration:
Courses Not Part of the Degree Program
................................................................................................................................................................................................
If you wish to take courses that are not part of your degree program and have them credited toward your degree, please clarify this in advance with the chair of the Examination Board (PAV) and the respective lecturer.
Exam Registration:
Please send the written approval from the Chair of the Examination Board and the relevant lecturer (via email) to the Registrar’s Office (see Contact) within the registration deadline so that we can properly register you for these “non-program-specific” courses.
Leave of Absence
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Students are not permitted to take exams while on a leave of absence. If exams are taken during the leave semester nonetheless, they cannot be recognized.
Exceptions are made for exams that were not passed in the previous semester. Additional exceptions are outlined in the Enrollment Regulations.
For detailed information on the leave semester, please visit the website of the relevant Student Admissions and Registration Office.
