Free Wi-Fi with eduroam
With eduroam Wi-Fi you can use free wireless at HAW Hamburg and other universities.
eduroam Wi-Fi is set up using an automatic configuration programme.
You can find a step-by-step set-up guide here (in German only).
How do guests access the Wi-Fi network?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
- With eduroam
If your home institution is also part of eduroam you can connect to HAW Hamburg's Wi-Fi with your eduroam ID – without an extra guest account.
- With a guest account for 'HAW.guest' Wi-Fi
Temporary guest accounts can be made available to visitors (guest lecturers, conference participants, trade-show exhibitors, etc.) so that they can use the HAW.guest Wi-Fi service.
Guest Wi-Fi accounts are short-term. They can be used for up to seven days and enable use of the Wi-Fi network only. For technical reasons a standard user ID is required to use additional HAW Hamburg resources.
Apply for a guest account
In general, only HAW Hamburg staff members can apply for guest accounts. Please use the following online form and verify the request using your HAW account.
You can request guest accounts up to a maximum of one month in advance. A total of 100 guest accounts are available per event. Once you have applied you will receive a PDF document with the login information via your HAW email account (obligatory). The guest accounts are valid immediately.
If the Wi-Fi guest account does not meet your requirements you can apply for a temporary HAW account for external users over the employee portal.
If you have questions in advance, please contact the IT Service Centre at dialup (@) haw-hamburg.de or by telephone at 040 42875-8880.
Which operating systems does eduroam support?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
- Android
- Apple iOS mobile devices
- Apple macOS
- Chrome OS
- Linux
- Microsoft Windows
Unfortunately, we cannot provide Wi-Fi configuration assistance for devices that are not supported by eduroam's automatic configuration assistant tool (CAT).
How can I download the configuration script without Wi-Fi?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
You can connect without entering a password via the 'HAW.onboarding' Wi-Fi network.
Typically, you will see a message saying that this Wi-Fi connection does not allow you to access the Internet. However, all of the tools you need to set up eduroam are available from the 'HAW.onboarding' Wi-Fi network.
You can connect to the Internet via the HAW VPN at connect.haw-hamburg.de.
Tip: The self-service tool, where you can change the password for your HAW account, is also accessible from the 'HAW.onboarding' Wi-Fi network.
What should I do if I have problems with the automatic configuration?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
If you experience problems during the automatic configuration of eduroam when using Windows (10, 8, 7 and Vista), it often helps to delete the eduroam configuration and then run the automatic configuration programme again.
You can use the following programme to delete the eduroam configuration quickly and easily: del-eduroam.exe
SHA-256: | 31C50DC39CDDA2D80074A2E9A57EEEF382E85AE9D6E0EDD10F1FC7604C67E2E5 |

SHA-1: | 8B77EA2C64FB9A8C1ABF85852236A0F932B76D90 |
Alternatively, you can download the programme as a batch script.
Double-click on the downloaded file to run it. With some versions of Windows you may see SmartScreen warnings, but you can simply ignore them.
