Erasmus Day 2022 at HAW Hamburg a great success!

Titled ‘Want to travel and take part in international exchange?', the second Erasmus Day was held at HAW Hamburg on 1 November 2022. Following a two-year break due to the corona pandemic, the event took place on campus once again. It was organised by the HAW Hamburg International Office and held in its rooms at the Student Center.

Erasmus Day gave students from the different HAW Hamburg faculties the opportunity to obtain a range of information on spending a semester abroad or completing an internship in another European country. Over the course of the afternoon, more than 100 students made their way to the International Office event.

Students came to the event individually and in small groups to learn more about applying for a study place abroad as well as about the financial support provided by Erasmus+. The student exchange coordinators from the faculties of Life Sciences, Engineering and Computer Science, and Business and Social Sciences were there to provide information and answer questions about potential partner universities and integrating a semester abroad into a course of study. Marina Leß and Sabina Schöne from the International Office answered questions about obtaining Erasmus+ funding for a study or internship stay.

I would have liked it if this type of event had been held while I was deciding whether to do a semester abroad. After all the online events, it was refreshing for us and the interested students to meet in person and talk.

The coordinators were supported in some cases by visiting students from our partner universities who are currently studying at HAW Hamburg and who talked about their home universities. Five former Erasmus exchange students, who spent their semesters abroad at partner universities in France, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands and Hungary, also talked with interested students about their experiences. The level of interest here was huge, which meant the five of them were in conversation with participants for the duration of the 2.5-hour event. ‘Erasmus Day was a great success! The huge amount of interest surpassed all our expectations, and it was clear that students are very interested in learning more about the various options for spending a semester abroad.’
