The Fraunhofer IWES is one of CC4E’s key partners – and the collaboration is close not only in terms of expertise but also in terms of physical proximity: at our site on the Steindamm in central Hamburg, the CC4E and the Fraunhofer team share an office space and are already working in close coordination on a day-to-day business.
Fraunhofer IWES is also present at our Energy Campus technology centre in Hamburg-Bergedorf, focusing on several key research areas. A central component is the blade bearing test rig built by IWES, which, in cooperation with our wind laboratory, further strengthens Hamburg’s role as a centre of excellence for wind energy research.
At the same time, another important step in the development of the Energy Campus is being taken in collaboration with the Fraunhofer team: the Fraunhofer ILES Centre (Integration lokaler Energiesysteme - Integrated Local Energy Systems) – as part of IWES – provides the technical foundation for the planned sector coupling demonstration centre. Building on existing expertise and infrastructure, the aim is to create a facility where innovative technologies can be researched, tested and further developed within a real-world system network. Once completed, the centre will serve as a catalyst for excellent research, successful knowledge transfer and the market launch of new products and services.
