The conference participants came from over 10 countries and in some cases travelled a long way to get to HAW Hamburg – for example, from Japan and the USA. They included a broad spectrum of experts from the sector: researchers, representatives from manufacturers and other interested parties all used the two-day conference for intensive discussion and networking. There was always an opportunity to talk about technical issues or get to know one another in a relaxed setting between sessions.
The presentations covered a diverse range of innovative topics. A total of seven sessions and 26 presentations provided interesting insights into innovative system developments in the market, including promising prototypes, floating systems, relevant aerodynamic effects, and much more. Design variations such as the number and order of rotors were also an important topic. Tools and methods for estimating operating and maintenance costs were also presented and discussed. In the panel discussions, experts made predictions about the development and future of the wind-energy sector from the perspective of both research and industry.
