Language proficiency certificates
If you are applying for an exchange semester at one of our partner universities abroad or for a scholarship, you will need to submit proof of your language skills.
In most cases a DAAD language certificate is sufficient. To obtain this, you will have to take an assessment exam (listening and reading comprehension, written and oral communication skills). Depending on the provider, this certificate costs €40 to €60.
In Hamburg you can complete this assessment
- at the Universität Hamburg (various languages); address: General Languages office, Von-Melle-Park 5, room 3055, 20146 Hamburg
- or a private language school – for example, the Hamburg School of English (short-term appointments are possible) or the Institut français for French.
IMPORTANT: When applying for a DAAD scholarship please submit this letter of confirmation with your DAAD language certificate.
